Hazleton cruises to 3-0 win at Schuylkill
Schuylkill Haven, Pa - Following a pair of difficult five set losses over the weekend, the Penn State Hazleton Women's Volleyball squad bounced back with a three set win at Penn State Schuylkill on Monday night, boosting the Lions record to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Hazleton dominated the first two sets of play, topping Schuylkill in both frames by scores of 25-13. The home team rallied to make it a game in set three, notching double-digit kills in the set for the first time all evening, but the Lions edged them out in the end by the score of 25-23, avoiding a fourth set on their way to clean sheet on Monday. Third year player, Sydney Mack continued to lead the Hazleton attack, registering 19 kills on the night, while second year player Kaytlin Kelley added nine kills, a solo block and four block assists in the win. First year player Claire Riera-Gomez totaled five kills for Hazleton while fourth year player Rebecca Dzuranin notched four kills to go along with a team high four service aces. Second year setter Sophia Del Vacchio dished out a game-high 42 assists on Monday night while second year player Nora Jones topped the defensive effort for Hazleton, picking up 25 digs in the win.
Next up for the Lions, Hazleton returns to the Dr. Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium on Thursday night for PSUAC matchup with Penn State Scranton at 7:00 p.m.
