Wyllie's goal earns Hazleton Soccer the victory at SUNY Delhi
Delhi, NY - Penn State Hazleton Soccer (1-1, 0-0 PSUAC) hit the road Saturday morning to take on United States Collegiate Athletic Association opponent SUNY Delhi for an early season non-conference matchup. The Lions pressed the Broncos early, earning a first half lead, then fought to a 0-0 stalemate in the second half to pick up their first win of the season 1-0 over SUNY Delhi.
The Bronco defense limited Hazleton to just three shots on goal throughout the match, but the Lions made the most of their opportunities. In the 35th minute of action, Kyle Venditti (Berwick, PA) found Tyler Wyllie (Benton, PA) running hard to the near post. Wyllie received the pass and flicked the ball past the keeper to put the Lions up 1-0, a score that would stand to be the lone goal of the contest. The Broncos controlled the ball much of the game, earning nine corner kicks to just three for Hazleton and outshooting the Lions by a margin of ten to three, but James Fisher and the Hazleton defense stopped all advances by the Delhi offense to maintain the shutout and earn the win.
Next Up: Penn State Hazleton returns to the friendly confines of High Acres to prepare for Penn State University Athletic Conference play. The Lions will face off with Penn State Mont Alto in the their first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM.
