Hazleton, Pa. - The Nittany Lions dropped their final non-conference game of the season with Monday night's 4-0 defeat at the hands of Delaware Valley University. Hazleton kept within reach for 60 minutes until a flurry of late goals secured the win for the Aggies.
Hazleton allowed an early goal to Delaware Valley's Austin Daniels coming on a well placed direct kick by Dan Arone in the 10th minute of action. Even though Hazleton was forced to play the bulk of the period in their own territory, stout defense and quality goalkeeping by freshman Bryce Dalpiaz kept the Lions in contention. Hazleton blanked the Aggies for the next 50 minutes of play an trailed just 1-0 well into the second half.
Despite the quality effort by the Lions, Delaware Valley methodically wore down the defensive unit and broke the game open with second half goals by Daniels, Andre Permyashkin and a late tally by Matt Miller. Overall the Aggies out-shot the Lions 45-2, owning the bulk possession throughout the game.
Next up: Hazleton continues the final week of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon with a crucial conference game at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Hazleton will need a victory to remain in playoff contention heading into the weekend matchup with Mont Alto.
