Rebecca Baum to attend Penn State Hazleton
Hazleton, Pa. - Four-year player and senior captain of the York Catholic High School Softball team, Rebecca Baum (Stewartstown, Pa.) signs the dotted line to play for the Hazleton Nittany Lions for the 2020-21 season. Baum struck out over 500 batters in her first three years at York Catholic, adding numerous awards as a pitcher and outfield talent that included YAIAA player and pitcher of the year as well as a nod as the PIAA District Three player of the year. In addition to her high school softball accolades, Baum won several championships on the regional and national level with PA Gators travel softball club.
Baum, a three-time honor roll student, joins the University as a very goal driven individual and will enter Hazleton's Physical Therapy Assistant program in the fall of 2020. "The combination of a great softball program and exemplary academics drew me to the Hazleton campus. ", Baum remarked. "I want to feel challenged while being determined to improve and develop my skills in the Physical Therapist field and on the field, I look forward to working hard and bringing positivity and encouragement to the team."
When not in the classroom or competing on the diamond, Rebecca remains active and involved all the time. She competed in football and competitive cheerleading at York Catholic High School where her squad placed second in the York County cheerleading competition. The daughter of Gina and Mark Baum, Rebecca also has two siblings and enjoys spending time with friends and family along with the family dog. Rebecca also enjoys playing the piano, baking, ice skating and being a positive contributor to her local community.
