Women's Basketball tops SUNY Delhi, 67-49
HAZLETON, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton earned their second victory in as many nights, downing fellow USCAA member SUNY Delhi, 67-49, in a non-conference game in the Dr. Thomas Caccese Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Four Lady Lions notched double figures on the night, and junior Alexis Daly (Wyalusing, Pa.) picked up her second double-double of the season.
Hazleton (2-0, 0-0 PSUAC) won despite going 0-for-9 from three-point range and shooting only 50 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Lions won by dominating the paint, outrebounding the Broncos 46-30 and winning the points in the paint, 56-26.
Daly finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Taylor Cannon (Hazleton, Pa.) scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Sophomore Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, NJ) added 14 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Kyana Willoughby (Union City, NJ) scored 10 points to round out the Lady Lions in double figures.
Hazleton picked up an early lead, and went into halftime with a 36-25 advantage. Defense kept Delhi from making a run, as the Lady Lions forced 21 turnovers and capitalized with 25 points off the takeaways.
Delhi was led by Adriane Jackson with 13 points, while Kaitlin Haynes added 11.
The Lady Lions return to action on Friday, November 14 when they host Broome Community College at 5:30 p.m.
