Center Valley, Pa. - The Lady Lions jumped out to a 8-0 advantage in the first half and cruised to an 11-0 finish over Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Hazleton's 11 goals were a record total for the program and two more than the squad's total for the season to date.
Four Lady Lions garnered multiple scores in the first half. Junior Breann Fetterman (Mountain Top, Pa.) knocked in the eventual game winner just five minutes into the action. Fetterman's tally came via the header on a corner attempt by fellow junior Madison Polumbo (Hazleton, Pa.). That score would prove to be the first of many as freshman Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pa.) senior Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) and junior Josephine Selekpoh (Philadelphia, Pa.) all added two scores each in the half. Fetterman would tack on a second tally of her own to give Hazleton a healthy 8-0 cushion at the midway point.
With the game well in hand, Selekpoh added a second half score given the junior her first career hat trick while her team went on to the 11-0 conference win. Sophomore Devon Keiper (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) earned the win in net but it was senior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) who picked up the only save on the day for the Lions.
Next up: Hazleton takes a brief pause from Penn State University Athletic Conference action to face the University of Cincinnati Clermont at home on Monday night at 7:00 p.m
