Hazleton best Lehigh Valley 3-0
Allentown, Pa. - The Lady Lions were back in action on Monday night, resuming Penn State University Athletic Conference play against Lehigh Valley. Hazleton fought off a pair off close sets but came out unblemished for a 3-0 sweep on the road, improving their record to 10-9 on the year and 5-2 in the PSUAC east.
Hazleton bested Lehigh Valley by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-21 and once again it was the Lady Lions service game and quality hitting that prevailed. Hazleton combined for 17 aces on the evening while notching 25 kills and .197 hitting percentage to get the job done. Leading the way was sophomore Samaya Hornsby (Richmond, Ca.) who totaled team highs with 7 kills and four aces on the evening. Freshman Alessandra Banta (Coatesville, Pa.) piled up 12 assists and three aces while senior Lauren Nietz (Coaldale, Pa.) served up four aces of her own and a game high 16 digs.
Next up: Round two of a three game road stint for the Lady Lions resumes on Saturday when Hazleton travels to Penn State York for a 2:00 p.m. match.
