Wilkes-Barre, Pa - The Lady Lions struggled to make headway against NCAA Division III Wilkes University on Friday night in the Marts Center, falling in straight sets by scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-10. Hazleton drops to 0-1 following the season opener but the relatively new squad gained valuable court time as conference play looms just over one week from now.

The Lady Lions found themselves at the mercy of the strong service game of the Colonels who issued the Lions nine aces in set one on their way to a commanding lead. Hazleton cleaned up the receive game to an extent but continued to encounter passing difficulty as Wilkes racked up nearly 25 percent of their scores throughout the match via the serve.

Hazleton newcomers Payton Fogarty and Abby Bessoir stood out on the offensive side for the Lady Lions, combining for all six of the Hazleton kills Friday night, with the 2018 PSUAC eastern division setter of the year, Alessandra Banta doing the bulk of the distributing.

Hazleton will get a full week of practice in following the Labor Day holiday before taking the court again. The Lions will host NCAA Division III King's College on Monday, September 9 in the Dr. Thomas M. Cacess Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
