Erin Schmick commits to play softball in 2017
Hazleton, Pa. - Erin Schmick, from Macungie, Pa., a senior at Emmaus High School, has committed to play for Lady Lion Softball during the 2016-17 season. Schmick is excited about the opportunity to continue to play the sport she loves, and the prospects that come with being a part of the Penn State family. "It's amazing to see how many students graduate and are then able to find jobs and internships in their field.", Schmick stated. The senior plans to major in animal science and work to become a veterinarian upon graduation.
Schmick is an experienced and diverse player, earning varsity letters for softball the past three years at Emmaus. The senior found a home as a catcher, but also spends time on the field as a corner infielder, as well as in the outfield. Schmick was an honorable mention all-star last year as a junior, hitting .367 at the dish with two home runs and 14 RBI to her credit. In addition to her high school accolades, Schmick also plays for Norwest Explosion's Gold team, a travel squad out of the Lehigh Valley area.
Off the field, Erin is involved and excels in the classroom. Schmick has made the honor roll each year of her high school career, holding a grade point average of 3.2 or higher. She also remains a member of the spanish honor society and the school choral group.
