Hazleton Golf welcomes Bobby Kaufman to the 2023-24 roster
Hazleton, Pa. - Bobby Kaufman of Barnesville, Pa. is set to begin his journey with the Hazleton Nittany Lion golf program. Kaufman spent four seasons with the Mahanoy Area High School golf team, helping that squad to win the Schuylkill League on three occasions and is primed to help the Nittany Lions in their quest for a third consecutive conference title. Kaufman averaged an 84 for the year with Mahanoy Area High School last year, and also competed with the track and field program where he placed at the league tournament in the shot put event.
"Bobby has everything we're looking for in a young player and he has an opportunity to really help the team this season", said Head Coach Ryan Aten. "He's athletic, passionate about the game and committed to getting better each day he's out on the course."
Bobby plans to major in mechanical engineering and minor in business at Penn State while competing in golf for two years at the Hazleton campus. While here, he'll join his sister Noel Kaufman who graduated from Penn State Schuylkill in 2021 and now helms the Hazleton volleyball team as head coach. "I have been a fan of Penn State ever since my sister played volleyball at Penn State Schuylkill and went on to win a number of awards there," said Kaufman. "When I heard that Hazleton wanted me to compete with the golf team, I was very excited and I'm ready to get straight to work with the team. I'm going to do my best to do well in school and hopefully help the team win a conference title over the next two years."
