Bio
Ian McCole joined the Nittany Lion Baseball squad as the Assistant Coach in the fall of 2022 and was named Head Coach of the Hazleton Nittany Lions in June of 2023. McCole was a three sport standout at Shenandoah Valley High School where he garnered first team all-area selections in football, basketball, and baseball. Upon graduation Ian attended DIII powerhouse, Misericordia University to continue his baseball career. Once at Misericordia, Ian notched the first college world series win in school history in their first appearance, while being named to the college world series all-tournament team, as well as the all-conference team. The following year Ian set the school record with 11 regular season wins and led the cougars to the super regional tournament. Following the season, Ian was named conference pitcher of the year, regional pitcher of the year and was a member of the All-America Team, being the first cougar named to the All-America team in over a decade. McCole was one of 4 pitchers selected to the All-Decade team despite only playing two full seasons with the cougars.
During the pandemic, McCole decided to continue his college career at D1 Saint Joseph’s University where he would go on to be their Friday starter for two seasons. McCole went on to lead the Hawks to two consecutive A10 tournament appearances while leading the hawks in innings pitched in both of his years on Hawk Hill. Ian notched Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honors 3 times as well as Philadelphia Baseball Review Pitcher of the Week four times. Against Saint Bonaventure, McCole threw the 7th no hitter in Saint Joseph’s History and the only no hitter in D1 baseball in 2022. Ian was recognized as National Pitcher of the Week by multiple writers associations.
As a right-handed pitcher, McCole played five seasons of collegiate baseball; three at Misericordia and two at St. Joseph’s. He compiled a 25-12 record with a 3.95 ERA in 57n appearances (50 starts), with 234 strikeouts and 74 walks in 312.1 innings.
McCole currently holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Misericordia University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Saint Joseph’s University. He resides in Shenandoah with his parents and younger brother.
