Men's duo earn All-Conference award
State College, Pa. - The Nittany Lions were back in the postseason and a number of players stood out in 2018-19 during Hazleton's successful run. On Thursday afternoon, two of those players gained recognition from coaches around the Penn State University Athletic Conference for their impressive play throughout the season. Junior Andy Kwaitkowski (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore Brandon Mohammed (Albrightsville, Pa.) both received honors with their names added to the PSUAC All-Conference squad.
#5 Andy Kwaitkowski - 1st Team All-Conference Eastern Division
Whether making the start or coming into the game in reserve, the junior shooting guard was cool as ice. In his first season at Hazleton Kwaitkowski led the squad in scoring 15 times throughout the regular season. His 17.3 points per game was the third highest scoring average in the PSUAC's eastern division and sixth highest total conference wide. With just 13 starts to his credit, the junior topped 20 or more points on nine occasions and established himself as one of the top shooters in the game, toting a 44.4 conversion ratio from beyond the arc.
#23 Brandon Mohammed - Honorable Mention All-Conference
During his second season, Mohammed grabbed headlines as one of the league's top big men in the game. Ranking fifth in total rebounds and fourth in the conference in rebounds per game at 8.3 boards per contest, the sophomore was no easy task for opponents to tackle under the basket. His seven double-doubles were a team-high and Mohammed led Hazleton in overall field goal percentage at a 54.9 ranking him in the top ten of the conference. Mohammed was the complete package for the Lions, issuing 22 blocked shots, 20 steals and was the squad's second leading scorer with 11.5 points per game.
