Hazleton improves to 2-0 with win over Manor College
Hazleton, Pa. - Hazleton picked up their second win of the season on Wednesday night, winning on their home court against Manor College by the score of 83-59. Hazleton led for 39 of the 40 minutes of regulation, leaving this one a no-doubter despite losing the rebounding battle and an eight point deficit at the charity stripe. Instead, the Lions shot over 50 percent from the field and tacked on 12 makes from beyond the arc to build and keep a substantial lead throughout the contest.
Hazleton started off hot in the first half. Third year Andre Campbell and fourth year Dante Harward combined for the team's first 19 points of the game, giving Hazleton a 12 point cushion five minutes into the action and the game remained a double-digit lead from that point on. Campbell dominated the period, totaling 15 of his 20 points on the night in the first half while adding four assists, a blocked shot and swipe in the first half. His efforts, combined with 17 bench points allowed Hazleton to increase their lead to as many as 25 points in the first half, although the Blue Jays finished the period on a 10-0 run to close the gap and trail Hazleton 44-29 at the break.
Manor College hung around for a brief period in the second half but were unable to put a dent in the Hazleton lead. The Lions got scoring from 11 players in the second half, expanding their cushion to as many as 36 points before pumping the brakes late in the game. In the end, Campbell finished the night with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five dimes in just 26 minutes of work. Harward totaled 12 points going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc with fourth year Connor Rushing leading all of the reserves with a 4-for-6 effort from the field to notch 10 of Hazleton's 38 bench points.
Hazleton will leave the friendly confines of the Dr. Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium for the first time this season with a trip to Bucks County Community College on Saturday, November 9. Tip-off against the Centurion is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.
