Lions capture second place finish at DuBois Country Club
DuBois, PA - Penn State Hazleton golfers ventured to DuBois Country Club for the opening match of the Penn State University Athletic Conference golf season. Hazleton's top four finishers combined for a total of 334strokes, good enough for a second place finish. Penn State Wilkes-Barre took home the victory in the year's first event, with a winning score of 325.
Hazleton's own Ty Morzilla completed the day with a second place overall individual finish. Morzilla's round started slowly with bogey's on three of the rounds first four holes, but the 2014 PSUAC Player of the Year was able to grind away at the course to finish three over through the final 14 holes. A miss-hit on 18 from an old divot threatened to derail a quality finish, but his strong short game saved par to keep his round under 80. Morzilla spoke after the round, "I struck the ball well today and had plenty of chances for birdies, but just couldn't get the putter going. Overall I'm pleased with the way the team performed in our first match, and look forward to our next opportunity at Mt. Valley Golf Course."
Top Four Hazleton Scores:
Ty Morzilla - 79
Gary Hunt - 83
Katie Behnert - 84
Garrett Madison - 88
Next Up: The PSUAC golf season continues as teams travel to the Penn State Schuylkill Invitational at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Schuylkill County. The match will take place on Wednesday, September 16 at 11:00 AM.
