Aggies issue Hazleton 6-0 loss
Doylestown, Pa. - The Nittany Lions wrapped up non-conference play and game number two of a four game road swing on Monday night as the squad traveled to Delaware Valley University. The Lions played well early on, but a flurry of scores late in the first half led to the Lions third straight loss by the score of 6-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jean-Louis Sunther Jr. (Abidjam, Ivory Coast) would stop the first two Aggie advances, but the Lions would fall behind 16 minutes into the action on a breakaway score by Del Val's Billy Frazier. Though trailing early, Hazleton would respond with some quality chances by sophomore Sam Deptula (Shamokin, Pa.) in the opponents end of the field, but the waning minutes of the half would seal the Lions' fate in this contest.
The Aggies Nick Miller would score the first of the Delaware Valley tallies, then assist on two more scores to increase the Aggie's advantage. In the end with just over ten minutes remaining in the half, Delaware Valley would strike for a total of four goals to pull ahead by a five point margin at the break. The Lions would limit Delaware Valley to just one score in the final 45 minutes, but the Hazleton offense was never able to get going in this one, resulting in the shut-out loss to the Aggies.
Sunther would finish the night with 10 saves against 16 shots on target by the Aggies while Sam Deptula led the squad with five shots offensively including Hazleton's lone shot on target.
Next up: Hazleton's tough stretch of non-conference games comes to a close and the Lions hope that tough schedule will pay off in Penn State University Athletic Conference play. Hazleton will meet their first PSUAC opponent on Saturday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to the campus of Penn State Lehigh Valley.
