Lions shut out versus New Kensington

Hazleton, Pa. - The Nittany Lions fell to 0-3-2 (0-2-1 PSUAC) on the season following a 6-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon at the hands of the visiting Lions from Penn State New Kensington. 

Hazleton had a couple of early opportunities in Saturday's contest but things quickly got away from the Nittany Lions. Just three minutes into the game, Carlos Colindres tracked down a through ball up the right side of the 18, dribbled past a Hazleton defender back to the middle of the field and struck a low ball inside the right post for the game's first score. Three minutes later, New Kensington tacked on another goal with a header by Brady Braun, cashing in a chip shot from the right side by Nate Andrews. It didn't get any easier for the Nittany Lions following the early deficit and by the 19th minute of play, New Kensington added two more goals to their credit including a second tally by Colindres.

Hazleton closed the gap defensively to finish off the half but the damage had already been done and quality scoring opportunities never materialized for the Lions. Despite forcing 40 minutes of scoreless play, Hazleton was unable to muster a goal against Joshua Zakrzewski who made several solid stops on the afternoon and three saves against the Hazleton offense. New Kensington would go on to finish the game with a distinct 23-9 advantage in the shots category and seal up the game with two second half goals by Thomas Cahill and Brady Braun to ensure the win.

Next up: Hazleton will look to rebound on Wednesday when the Lions continue non-conference play. Hazleton will travel to Williamson College of the Trades in Media, Pa. for a 6:30 p.m. kick off against the Mechanics.
