Lions fall to 0-6 in PSUAC with loss at Schuylkill
Schuylkill Haven, Pa. - The Nittany Lions dropped their fifth straight conference match on Tuesday, falling to Penn State Schuylkill on the road by the score of 3-0. Hazleton kept this one close but an insurance goal in the 80th minute sealed their fate after a strong showing in the second half.
Schuylkill's Zach Wilcox scored the eventual game winning goal in the 17th minute of play, putting the home squad up 1-0 early in the action. Hazleton kept Schuylkill off the board up until the 31st minute when Wilcox struck for his second goal of the afternoon. Schuylkill carried a 2-0 lead into the halftime break, but the Lions defense stood up and maintained their standing for a nearly 50 minute stretch of play between the two halves. Hazleton's Daniel Albanese and Collin Bogdon issued three shots on target as Hazleton attempted to shrink the Schuylkill lead but were thwarted by the Schuylkill defense. As the final horn drew near, Schuylkill's Jake Moser tacked on the third goal for the home team, putting the game out of reach at 3-0.
Hazleton played well in the loss but once again were unable to muster enough possessions to crack the scoreboard, ultimately being out-shot by Schuykill 21-6. The Lions will look to get in the win column as PSUAC play continues this weekend when the Lions travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday, October 5 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
