Hazleton, Pa. - The Nittany Lions dropped both games in their weekend series in western Pennsylvanis, falling in Saturday's conference game at New Kensington by a score of 6-0 before taking a 7-0 loss against Carlow University on Sunday, October 20. With the pair of losses, Hazleton falls to 0-11 on the season with just one game remaining in 2024.
Saturday, October 19 - Penn State Hazleton 0, Penn State New Kensington 6 - Final
Hazleton's offensive struggles continued in conference play as the Nittany Lions managed just two shots while the New Kensington squad maintained control of the tempo throughout the contest. New Kensington reeled off 13 shots on goal in the first half, leading to three scores and a comfortable cushion over the Lions. Hazleton's Mac Kline did well to stop 20 shots in the game but the home squad had too many opportunities to keep this one close. New Kensington continued their strong effort in the second half, notching three additional scores, including one in the 90th minute of play, to carry the day 6-0 over Hazleton.
Sunday, October 20 - Penn State Hazleton 0, Carlow University 7 - Final
The Lion's fortunes continued on Sunday as the Hazleton squad faced off with the USCAA DI squad in Carlow University. Following an opening goal by Carlow in the 11th minute of play, Hazleton kept the score at 1-0 for the next 32 minutes of action, but a late flurry by the home team had the Lions facing a 3-0 deficit at the midway point. Hazleton managed to create more offensive chances in Sunday's contest, issuing five shots on the opponent, but that led to more chances on the opposite end. Carlow racked up 27 shots in the second half, including 12 shots on target, picking up four additional goals to close out the contest despite Hazleton's Mac Kline making 14 stops between the posts.
Next up for Hazleton is the final game of the season. The Lions will look to get in the win column during their senior day game as Hazleton hosts Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, October 26 at 12:00 p.m.
