Rhome and Michael named conference players of the week
Hazleton, Pa. - Hazleton players, sophomore Vanessa Michael (Bloomsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Kayla Rhome (Marysville, Pa.) were named players of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference for their top-level play last week in Titusville, Fl.
Vanessa Michael was named top hitter in the PSUAC for her performance at the plate. Michael hit .316 at the dish (6 for 19) while slugging three home runs in a pair of Lady Lions victories vs. Delaware Valley University and Iowa Wesleyan University. The sophomore drove in six runs and scored three times to garner player of the week honors in her first stint in the Hazleton line up.
Kayla Rhome picked up where she left off in 2015, shutting down opponents bats from the circle. Rhome pitched 25 innings last week in Florida, scoring a win against Delaware Valley University to earn player of the week honors. The sophomore turned in a 1.68 earned run average over four games pitched against NCAA, USCAA, and NAIA opponents. Rhome struck out 18 batters during the week and opponents hit just .218 against the Hazleton ace in 101 tries at the plate.
