Gomez determined for success at the next level
Hazleton, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton is pleased to announce the arrival of Dangely "Danger" Gomez from the Bronx, Ny. to the Nittany Lion Softball program. Gomez, a second baseman and outfielder is a graduate from Dewitt Clinton High School where she also participated on the varsity swim team and the boys wrestling team.
Gomez was a member of the Griffins softball squad for three years and became a leader within the program. Dangely broke in to the program as one of the New York City Public School Athletic League's best base runners, notching 29 steals in 2019 and ranking 12th in PSAL in hitting. While the pandemic limited opportunities in 2019-20, Dangely helped the Griffins back to a second place finish in the PSAL A1 division in 2020-21 and continues to compete outside of school with the Pelham Bay Belles 18u team.
Gomez is determined to succeed at the collegiate level both academically and on the softball field. An honor roll student in each of her four years at Dewitt Clinton High School, Dangely plans to study Criminology at Penn State Hazleton and strives to be at the top of her class, while balancing her time on the softball field.
"Penn State Hazleton Athletics has the best support system that I have encountered throughout my entire college process, and I just felt as if this was the team and campus I belonged with," stated Gomez. "The school offers a great academic program which further attracted me to the campus and I am beyond excited to meet the team and begin my softball journey."
