Joy earns Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award

Hazleton, Pa. - Senior Mackenzie Joy added one final award to her trophy case this summer, being name the 2020-21 Female Student-Athlete of the Year. In the midst of a pandemic and a coaching vacancy within the softball program for over six months, Joy embraced the challenges and persevered as leader with the softball and women's basketball programs over the course of the year. Joy played an integral role in helping the softball program prepare for a potential spring 2021 season and when the opportunity presented itself, the senior did not disappoint on the field of play. Joy's bat got hot midway through the season, registering a 10 game hit streak with eight multi-hit games and helping the Nittany Lions to a 15-9 regular season record and a Penn State University Athletic Conference post season berth. Joy finished the year with a .382 batting average, adding 12 RBI and 18 runs scored, earning the senior recognition as a USCAA All-American. Click here to see Mackenzie Joy's full interview.
