Lady Lions open conference play with 67-46 triumph over Penn State Schuylkill
POTTSVILLE, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton opened Penn State University Athletic Conference play with a 67-46 win over rival Penn State Schuylkill in a women's basketball game on Thursday night at Martz Hall in Pottsville, Pa.
Freshman Jacqlyn Siva-Harrison (Monmouth Junction, NJ) recorded her first career double-double, pitching in 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Lions (5-1, 1-0 PSUAC). Harrison also added four assists. Sophomore Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, NJ) joined Harrison with a double-double, including a 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Schuylkill (2-1, 1-1 PSUAC) jumped out to an early lead, holding a six point advantage only four minutes into the game. Hazleton answered to take a 28-20 lead at halftime, and junior Alexis Daly (Wyalusing, Pa.) kept the Lions at bay with team-high 19 points.
Madison Blasko led Schuylkill, coming off the bench to score 19 points. Teammate Tessa Dolce grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, although Hazleton outrebounded the Lions 39-36. The Lady Lions also held the advantage in points off turnovers, finishing with 17 points off of 24 Schuylkill giveaways. Hazleton sophomore's Kyana Willoughby (Union City, NJ) and Deidra Ciavaralla (Mountain Top, Pa.) each dished out four assists for Hazleton, who totaled 16 on the night as a team.
Hazleton returns to the road on Friday, November 21 when they travel to Penn State York for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
