Lady lions cruise to an 80-49 victory against Trinity Washington University tigers
HAZLETON, Pa. – The Penn State Hazleton Lady Lions were able to tally yet another early season win when they faced off with Trinity Washington University Saturday afternoon where they took off early to secure a 80-49 victory.
In a wire to wire to victory, the Lady Lions (5-1) shut down offensive opportunities for the Trinity Tigers (2-2) throughout the game to the tune of a 26.4 shooting percentage on the night. Every Lady Lion had a hand in the win, with all seeing minutes on the court and filling up the stat sheet. Four Lady Lions had strong performances posting double digit totals in scoring column.
1st Half:
In the first 10 minutes of play, Trinity was able to follow Hazleton closely, trailing by just six points with a score of 14-20. Freshman Kassie Ferdinand (Mountain Top, Pa.) came off the bench to net six points in the second quarter in just six minutes, to lead the team over that stretch of play. The same could not be said for the Tigers, going scoreless in the period until the final two minutes of the half. During the drought, the Lady Lions reeled off a 16-0 run to pull ahead by 22 points at the break.
2nd Half:
Trinity got back on the board in the second half but could not keep enough momentum to overpower Hazleton. The Lady Lions held off the Tiger advances and ballooned their lead to as many 32 points with 3:49 left to play. Overall on the night, the squad dished out 22 assists as Trinity suffered 19 turnovers, giving the Lions ample scoring opportunities as the posted a 40.3 shooting percentage from the field.
Top Performers:
Sophomore Alison Vincent (Ashville, Pa.) and stand out Hazleton senior Alexis Daly (New Albany, Pa.) both had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the squad on the afternoon. Freshman duo McKenzie Prutsman (Jasper, Ny.) and Haley Nalls (York, Pa.) rounded out the group of double digit scorers for the lions contributing 10 each. Junior Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, Nj.) had a solid near triple-double performance with eight points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

The Lady Lions have a 5-1 jump on the season as they head into a fall break before beginning conference play. Penn State University Athletic Conference action begins for Hazleton on December 1st at 6:00PM when they take on Penn State Schuylkill at Martz Hall.
