Streak ends at seven games after loss to Lehigh Valley
Hazleton, Pa. - Hazleton's seven game winning streak dating back to 2021 came to an abrupt end Tuesday night following a 70-42 defeat on their home court at the hands of Penn State Lehigh Valley. Lehigh Valley's talent and depth gave the Nittany Lions fits all evening, resulting in Hazleton shooting just 20.9 percent from the field and being forced into 26 turnovers in the loss.
Lehigh Valley led wire to wire in Tuesday night's PSUAC matchup, jumping out to a double-digit lead by the midway point of the first quarter and never looked back as Hazleton struggled to produce enough offense to keep pace. Twelve Lehigh Valley players broke into the scoring column including three players in double-figures. Taylor Styles led all players in the game with 12 points while Samantha Columna and Chanelle Lee with 10 points each respectively. Hazleton shot well from the free throw line, collectively making 11-of-13 attempts but failed to get in a rhythm during the course of play. Freshman Azaria Johnson (Richmond Hill, Ga.) and sophomore Emily Titus (Tamaqua, Pa.) led the team with eight point a piece while freshman Rocky Curry (Darby, Pa.) led all players in the game with 14 rebounds.
Next up: Another good test on Thursday in the PSUAC as Penn State Hazleton hosts Penn State Schuylkill at 6:00 p.m. as the top teams in the east jockey for playoff position.
