Lady Lions swept by Brandywine
Media, Pa. - After suffering a 7-2 defeat at the hands of the 2016 Penn State University Athletic Conference champions just two weeks earlier, Hazleton bounced back to put up a stiff fight on Wednesday when they traveled for round two of the regular season against Penn State Brandywine. The home squad would jump out to an early 2-0 advantage and although Hazleton would hold Brandywine scoreless for the final 56 minutes, the Lady Lions were unable to mount a rally, falling to Brandywine by the score of 2-0.
Although the Lady Lions would wind up being out shot 19-10 overall, Hazleton would land a higher percentage on target than the home squad.Hazleton had several quality chances to shrink the deficit coming from juniors Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) but just could not find the back of the net. Likewise, freshman Devon Keiper (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) put up a sturdy defense in the goal, earning seven saves on the day

Banks breaks for two
Brandywine would rely solely on the efforts of the PSUAC's leading goal scorer in this one. Just as in the first matchup of the season, Hazleton would struggle to contain Brandywine's Brianna Banks. Banks would strike for the game's opening score in the 26th minute of action, then tacked on her second unassited effort making a long run up field just eight minutes later.

Hazleton will look to stop the recent skid after a solid start to the regular season. Hazleton will next take the field on Thursday, October 12 when they travel south to face rival Penn State Schuylkill for a 4:00 p.m. kick off.
