Seven Lady Lions named to All-Conference team
State College, Pa. - The Lady Lions made a name for themselves in the Penn State University Athletic Conference in 2018. So much so that their 5-1 record in the conference and championship appearance led to seven of Hazleton's finest being named to the PSAUC's First Team All-Conference squad and three of those players earning specialty awards.
#13 Breann Fetterman: PSUAC Co-Player of the Year - Midfielder
Junior Breann Fetterman (Mountain Top, Pa.) dominated the midfield action in nearly every game this season, engineering much of the Hazleton offense and controlling the tempo of the game. Fetterman led the PSUAC in assists with 14 dimes and ranked fourth in total points, adding four goals to her credit. Fetterman had four multi-assist games including her best outing of the year against Penn State Schuylkill on September 27 where she issued four assists and scored twice as Hazleton topped their opponent 9-0.
#26 Emma Wyllie: PSUAC Newcomer of the Year - Forward
Freshman Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pa.) burst onto the scene with an outstanding first season in 2018. Wyllie tied for the team lead in scoring and scored the second most goals this season, knocking in 13 goals on the year. Wyllie played a pivotal role in Hazleton's run to the championship game, notching her first career hat trick while adding an assist in Hazleton's 5-0 semifinal win over Penn State Beaver.
#11 Devon Keiper: PSUAC Goalkeeper of the Year
Sophomore Devon Keiper (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) had an outstanding year as the Hazleton netminder. Keiper led the conference with 109 saves during the 2018 season, stopping shots at .727 clip. The sophomore allowed just six regular season goals to PSUAC opponents and recorded five shut-outs en route to a 6-2 record in the PSUAC.
#2 Katie Oldziejewski: First Team All-Conference - Forward
Senior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) has led or shared the Hazleton scoring title for three straight seasons going back the the squad's inaugural campaign back in 2016. 2018 was no exception as Oldziejewski scored 13 goals to equal her career high and led the team with 32 points. Two of Oldziejewski's goals went for game-winning scores and her six assists were the most in her career.
#17 Ariel Rowlands: First Team All-Conference - Forward
Senior Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) was the Lady Lions most opportunistic scorer in 2018. Rowlands converted six of her ten shots on goal into scores to tie for the third highest scoring total on the team. Rowlands had two multi-score games coming on September 22 at Penn State Lehigh Valley and again on Septermber 27 against Penn State Schuylkill.
#20 Madison Polumbo: First Team All-Conference - Midfielder
Developing a reputation for one of the most powerful boots in the PSUAC, junior Madison Polumbo (Hazleton, Pa.) had her best season as a Lady Lion in 2018. Polumbo tied for the third most goals with six scores, many of which came from long range out of the midfield position. In Hazleton's October 10 win over Penn State Scranton, Polumbo notched a goal and two assists, helping the junior to rank fourth on the team in total points.
#21 Kasey Jackson: First Team All-Conference - Defender
In her first season as a Lady Lion, junior Kasey Jackson (Sinking Springs, Pa.) commanded the center of the field for the Lady Lions defense. Jackson helped Hazleton engineer five shut-outs in the conference but wasn't shy about moving forward on as well. Jackson had a pair of assists throughout the regular season and key goal at the end of the first half in Hazleton's semifinal win over Penn State Beaver.
