Syracuse, Ny. - After outscoring their first two opponents 17-0 this week, the Lady Lions were dealt a dose of their own medicine on Saturday afternoon when the team visited Bryant & Stratton College in Syracuse, New York. The Bobcats took an early lead in this one and backed it up in the final period with five second half goals to earn the victory 7-0 over Hazleton.
Freshman goalkeeper Roxxy Dacosta (Bronx, Ny.) made some fine first half saves but despite the defensive effort, Hazleton was resigned to chase Bryant & Stratton in this one. An early goal in the first minute by Lyla Lionel put the Bobcats out front and after a 20 minute gap on the clock, Bryant & Stratton extended the lead midway through the half with a successful penalty try.
Hazleton trailed just 2-0 at halftime until the Bobcats turned up the heat in the second half. Lionel tacked on her second goal of the game with a quality run in the 47th minute, beginning a 20 minute stretch where the Bobcats tacked on four tallies to blow the game open. By the game's end, Hazleton would face 18 shots on goal while forcing just three shots on target offensively, resulting in the 7-0 lopsided defeat.
Next up: Hazleton earns a few days off before taking the pitch again. The Lions resume their non-conference season on Wednesday, September 11 when they face Lackawanna College at 5:00 p.m. at the Hazleton campus.
