Hazleton shuts out Pratt 1-0
Brooklyn, Ny. - Hazleton earned a 1-0 win on Saturday against Pratt Institute at Randall's Island. The victory extended the team's win streak to four straight games, all of which have come without surrendering a goal and improves the Lady Lion's record to 8-2 on the season.
Hazleton's lone goal came in the 18th minute of play, when sophomore Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pa.) struck for her 16th goal of the season. Wyllie ran down a deflected through ball and surged passed the defensive line of Pratt for a one on one attempt with the Cannoneer keeper. The sophomore planted the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal to give Hazleton a 1-0 advantage and the eventual game winning score. Hazleton would earn more quality chances as the game progressed but with nothing to show for it, the Lady Lion defense would need to close the door on Pratt. The Cannoneers tallied nine shots on the day but Hazleton was locked in defensively, especially in the second half. Hazleton allowed just three of those attempts to come in the final period to seal up the shut out win for freshman goalkeeper Roxxy Dacosta (Bronx, Ny.) who made five saves on the day.
Next up: With the season winding down, Hazleton has just two Penn State University Athletic Conference games remaining beginning with a showdown with Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday, October 9. Hazleton will take on the defending champions at 5:00 p.m. at the Hazleton campus.
