Hazleton, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton Women's Soccer captured their first win of their season on Saturday as they took their home field against Penn State Beaver. The Nittany Lions posted three first half goals to move ahead comfortably and tacked on two insurance goals in the final period to earn a shut-out victory by the score of 5-0.
Hazleton took control right out of the gates. In just the second minute of actions, Hazleton's Alyssa Marlowe found Jasmine Bender making a run towards the net and Bender put the Lions on top 1-0 with her third goal of the season. Bender wasn't done there as she and Isabella Mystkowski each added a goal and an assist throughout the duration of the period, giving Hazleton the 3-0 halftime advantage.
In the second half of play, Penn State Beaver picked up the tempo but the Nittany Lions stymied them on the defensive side. Goalkeeper Esmeralda Telles made four saves in the second half to keep a clean sheet while Hazleton's Alexis Marrotto went for scores on the opposite end in the 80th and 87th minute to sure up the win.
