Lady Lions cap regular season with 3-0 win at Wilkes-Barre
Lehman, Pa. - The regular season came to a close Friday night and on the 13th occasion the Lady Lions picked up a sweep, this time on the road at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Hazleton's play was on point in nearly every capacity, notching 29 kills and 15 service aces on the evening, allowing the squad to forge big leads on their way to the 3-0 finish by scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-12.
On a big night for the Hazleton offense, six Lady Lions registered multiple kills and four players collected two or more service aces. Topping all scoring efforts were senior Mariah Curry (Pottsville, Pa.) with eight kills and sophomore Chelsey Dominguez (Bronx, Ny.) with seven tallies. Sophomore Samaya Hornsby (Richmond, Ca.) totaled five kills and three aces while freshman Alessandra Banta (Coatesville, Pa.) picked up 25 assists and three aces. Rounding out the top performances from Friday was senior Lauren Nietz (Coaldale, Pa.) with a team best five services aces and 11 digs.
The 2018 season is winding down but things are just picking up for the Lady Lions. Hazleton will enter the postseason for the first time since the 2013 season. The Lady Lions will look to extend their season with a win in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, October 24. Hazleton will host Penn State Schuylkill at 7:00 p.m. looking to earn a trip to Rec Hall in State College, Pa.
