Lions drop double header to Penn State Schuylkill
Drifton, PA - After posting a 7-1 record in recent weeks, the Nittany Lions stumbled on Friday afternoon in a pair of Penn State University Athletic Conference games against local rival Penn State Schuylkill. The Lions efforts fell short of matching Schuylkill's offensive output who compiled 30 hits on the day. Hazleton fell in game one by a score of 9-1, and again in game two by a score of 19-4 in five innings.
Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 9, Penn State Hazleton 1
Top 1: Ryan Boyer led off the game with single to centerfield and quickly found himself on third base with a two-base error in the outfield. Guy Visconti singled to score the runner from third and made his way to scoring position with a pair of stolen bases. A throwing error by the Lion's infield put Schuylkill up 2-0.
Top 4: Schuylkill mounts a two-out rally as Matt Perez doubles to left field, driving in a pair of runs. Ryan King followed drove in Perez from third base with single to right center field to put Schuylkill up by a score of 5-0.
Top 5: A pair of doubles by Chris Kreider and Tyler Starry plate Schuylkill's sixth unanswered run.
Top 6: Three singles from King, Boyer and Visconti load the bases for Schuylkill with one out. King scores on Hazleton error in the infield to increase the lead to 7-0.
Bottom 6: Charlie Karncher beats out an infield single and scores on a double by Corey Ryba to get the Nittany Lions on the board and cut the lead to 7-1.
Top 7: Tyler Starry adds connects for a solo home run to left field to tack on a run. Matt Perez reaches second base with a double to the gap in left and scores on the final Schuylkill run on an RBI single by King.
