Hazleton Bats Go Silent, Fall to Benedictine College 8-0
The Benedictine College pitching staff held the Penn State Hazleton Lady Lions to three hits and no runs on Monday to take the 8-0 win in a Spring Training game in Titusville, FL.
The Benedictine College pitching duo of Ricke and Berry combined to limit the Hazleton Penn State Lady Lions to only three hits and give up no runs on their way to an 8-0 in a Spring Training game held at Titusville, Fl. WIth the loss, Hazleton drops to 0-3 in their early 2018 season.
Benedictine capitalized on Hazleton errors and used timely hitting to tack on eight runs against Hazleton. They got on the board first in the second inning when M. Henderson was on first and T. Ray was on third. Henderson attempted to steal second, but the throw by the catcher sailed into center field allowing Ray to score. In the bottom of the third, B. Shanks doubled to center field, Scoring M. Chevalier scored making the score 2-0. The Ravens put up a crooked number in the 5th when M. Henderson reached first when S. Methvin and B. Shanks both walked, and then M. Henderson hit a ball which was misplayed by the right fielder allowing Methvin and Shanks to score. A. Hyde then singled to centerfield to score Henderson. The Ravens weren't done yet as F. Harding singled and was misplayed by the Lady Lions outfield allowing Hyde to come all the way around from first to score. L. Ross then doubled to right center chasing Harding across the plate followed up by a M. Chevalier single, which scored Ross. The Ravens pushed across 6 runs in the inning to put the game away.
Hazleton threatended in the second, third and final frames loading the bases in all three innings but could not push a run across in any of the three. Kylee Sutton, Jerrika Chorba and Torie Naradko garnered the three hits for Hazleton.
