Ashley Wilson ready to hit the diamond with Nittany Lion softball
Hazleton, Pa. - Nittany Lion softball is excited to announce the arrival of Ashley Wilson from East Stroudsburg, Pa. to the incoming class of 2021-22.
Wilson, a catcher and utility player by trade, played little league for over nine years and captured several sectional titles and one state title prior to her softball career. In high school, Ashley played softball and ran cross country for four seasons at the varsity level with East Stroudsburg Senior High School South. She helped the cross-country team to an undefeated season in 2020-21 and earned an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference scholar-athlete award as a runner for ESSHSS.
On the softball diamond, Wilson's athleticism and versatility gained her notoriety as a senior with the Cavaliers. Rotating between the outfield, designated hitter and catching positions, Wilson was a mainstay in the East Stroudsburg South lineup and notched a .438 batting average in 2020-21. She added a .502 on base percentage, .625 slugging percentage and drove in 21 RBI throughout the year, earning Wilson first-team recognition in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference as a utility player. With her high school career behind her, Wilson continues to prep for her debut with the Hazleton Nittany Lions playing for the Explosion Fastpitch 18u Gold team this summer.
Come the fall, Wilson is ready to take on new challenges and excel at the next level while pursuing a career in the field of physical therapy. "I plan on pushing myself to be the best I can be in the classroom and on the field", said Wilson. "I want to be the best of the best and step up my game to a higher level. Academically, my goal is to graduate at the top of my class, join a practice and grow my career from there."
