Bloomsburg, Pa. - Hazleton softball secured two conference victories on Friday afternoon at the Bloomsburg Area High School softball complex over Penn State Greater Allegheny. The Lions batted around multiple times on the afternoon, totaling 53 hits in the two game stint against Greater Allegheny as the Lions were finding holes in the defense all afternoon.
Hazleton was aided by nine defensive miscues and five walks in game one as Hazleton racked up double digit runs in the first two innings of play on their way to a mercy rule victory at the conclusion of the fifth frame. Eight Hazleton hitters had multiple hits in the ball game, including 11 extra base hits. Hazleton was led by third year player Tori Rabuck who finished the game with six base hits in seven trips to the plate, adding six runs batted in. Second year player Tiffany Brogan registered five hits in the win, while fourth year player Linsey Fisk and first year player Amy Dwojewski racked up six RBI each.
Game two saw a similar result with Hazleton running out to a big lead in the opening stages of play. Hazleton picked up 20 hits in the second game and were issued 13 walks on their way to a five-inning win by the score of 26-2. Once again it was Rabuck inflicting plenty of damage, driving in six runs on three hits including her first home run of the season. Linsey Fisk tallied her second home run of the season on her way to way to a five RBI game, while fourth year play Paige Parisi finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate in the runaway victory.
Next up: The Hazleton Nittany Lions will remain at Bloomsburg Area High School on Saturday, April 6 when the Lions host Penn State Fayette in a two game set beginning at 2:00 p.m. on the Cheech and Jelly Field.
